Alaska winning streak at stake

The Aces (4-1) face the Batang Pier in the curtain raiser of the Petron Saturday Special at 4:30 p.m., hoping to sustain their momentum after opening the conference with a loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters.

Expected to play the starring role is veteran forward Vic Manuel, who two weeks ago hit a buzzer-beating shot in Alaska’s 105-103 win over defending champion San Miguel in Dumaguete City.

Manuel is averaging 23.4 points on 60-percent shooting with 5.8 rebounds this conference.

Coach Alex Compton is also banking on import Antonio Campbell, Calvin Abueva, Chris Banchero, Jvee Casio and Sonny Thoss to deliver for the Aces, who will be hard-pressed to beat a Batang Pier squad that is on an up-and-down campaign.

GlobalPort, carrying a 3-3 record, will play at full strength after import Malcolm White, Kelly Nabong , Mo Tautuaa, Brad Guinto and Ryan Arana were fined for their part in heated exchanges in a game against Rain or Shine last May 20.
